Ethanolamines are versatile molecules containing both amine and alcohol groups. They act as a weak base and are commonly used in the manufacture of detergents, in gas sweetening, textile additives, lubricants, cutting oils, surface coatings, in polyols for polyurethanes, in cyanide-free electroplating, pharmaceuticals and countless other applications. Ethylene glycols are commonly used as intermediates for a large variety of end products. The use of monoethylene glycol as antifreeze is well known.

Monoethanolamine (MEA; CAS 141-43-5) is a simple small ethanolamine with one primary amine and one alcohol group. It is a colorless liquid with a mild odour of ammonia. MEA is mainly used in sweetening natural gas and coal gas, and as soap or amides in heavy-duty detergents. Monoethanolamine is also used in the production of ethylene amines.

Diethanolamine (DEA; CAS 111-42-2) contains one secondary amine and two alcohol groups. DEA is a highly viscose liquid with a freezing point of 28 ÂșC. It is mainly used for gas sweetening and in the manufacture of light-duty detergents and shampoos. DEA can also be cyclized to make morpholine.

Berolamine-10 (BA-10; CAS 111-42-2) contains a high level of TEA (triethanolamine) and is mainly used as a grinding agent for cement to reduce energy consumption.

Monoethylene glycol (MEG; CAS 107-21-1) is a colorless liquid with low volatility. The product is extremely hygroscopic. MEG is miscible with water, alcohols, aldehydes, ketones and esters. Monoethylene glycol can be used as an intermediate in the production of solvents and resins or as a building block in PET to produce fibers. Furthermore, MEG is commonly used as a raw material for antifreeze fluids.

DEG-Mix (CAS 111-46-6/107-21-1/1310-58-3) is a mix of diethylene glycol, monoethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and water. Its main application is as a raw material for grinding aids.
